Meet CrossFit Restore
In 2010 Jason Murray began a journey called CrossFit. It began when a friend, MMA fighter Josh Emmit, invited him to work out at a CrossFit facility. The addiction to CrossFit began.
Within a couple months of CrossFit training, Jason went on a family trip to Bodega Bay. Jason, his girlfriend (now wife), his mother and her dogs were walking on the shoreline when Jason threw a rock in the ocean. One of the dogs went chasing after the rock and Jason went chasing after the dog. Time stood still as they watched the tides take Jason under and further away. Screams of help were heard by a passer-by. The unknown man took the dogs leash and through it towards Jason as the tide would bring him almost at arms reach. He grabbed the leash and was pulled on shore. Its a miracle that Jason is with us today. When he came home, he had a different state of mind. He understood that CrossFit wasn’t just a form of fitness, but a fitness that would make him strong enough to encounter in case of emergency scenarios.
At that point he was driven to start a new lifestyle and career. It started in an apartment facility gym where he convinced a couple of coworkers to trust in him and in a new form of fitness called “CrossFit”. Referrals started blooming, training started overflowing in a partially shared apartment garage (aka 709), JM’s Addiction was born & Jason had finally turned his hobby into his “Dream Career.”
The daily schedule consisted of 5am-8am training, 9am-6pm CarMax, 6pm-10pm training, 10:30pm-1am prep food for athletes… and then start all over again. He was on a mission to grow a business. 6 months later, JM’s addiction became Jason’s sole focus, he left CarMax and moved into his very own apartment garage gym (aka 1808). JM’s Addiction went from 25 – 50 athletes within a few months. The apartment complex was noticing the constant “Tire Pulling” and he was kindly asked to leave the apartment or close his “in-home business.”
So he moved in with family and found a temp location for JM’s Addiction. 3 months later, he found a location and became a CrossFit Affiliate – CrossFit Restore. Today the small-based CrossFit box is growing by the minute. CFR hosts 10 athletes per class, maintaining that one-on-one feel of training. Jason is the head Coach and is still working 14-hour days, but he’s doing what he loves. When he’s at home, he’s watching or reading anything and everything CrossFit, and there is constant discussion on how to improve and grow the box.
The journey of running a business is not easy, but years later we can say that every bump has lead us to this amazing community we have built and we are proud of the box CrossFit Restore has become.
